Jonathan White

Jonathan W. White is an assistant professor of American Studies at Christopher Newport University and a fellow at CNU’s Center for American Studies. His new book, Abraham Lincoln and Treason in the Civil War: The Trials of John Merryman, was published by Louisiana State University Press in 2011. White has published articles in several scholarly journals and popular magazines, including Civil War History, Maryland Historical Magazine, Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography, Prologue, and New Jersey Monthly. In 2007 he published an edited volume, A Philadelphia Perspective: The Civil War Diary of Sidney George Fisher, with Fordham University Press. White is the recipient of the 2005 John T. Hubbell Prize, awarded annually for the best article in Civil War History, and the 2010 Hay-Nicolay Dissertation Prize, which is given jointly by the Abraham Lincoln Institute and the Abraham Lincoln Association.
